Men's Float Trip (Current River) -with MODIFIED NEW PLAN

Trip was a success (overall). I have learned from this trip, and WHEN (not if) we do it again, I will do a few things a little different.
Sorry about the miscommunication on a few items:
1. last minute change on the location of where we were camping.
2. the cost of canoe rental. I thought it was $35 per canoe, and it ended up being $42 per canoe.

I enjoyed the food, the camping, the card playing, the float, the fishing, the cliff jumping, and all of the peoples' company on this trip. We WILL do it again!

Dinner (Fri Night):

  • BBQ Brisket Sandwiches
  • Bottled Water
  • Cookies & Chips
  • Pickles

Breakfast (Saturday Morning):
  • Bacon
  • Eggs
  • Oatmeal (all diff kinds)
  • Coffee
  • Bottled Water

Lunch (Sat):
  • Pretty much a repeat of Fri Night
  • More BBQ Brisket Sandwiches
  • More Pickles
  • Bottled Water
  • Cookies & Chips

This will be
$20.00 per person (and this includes our campsite). Not a bad deal ehh?

If you want additional drinks or snacks, then that is up to you.
I suggest that you bring a cooler to keep your water & lunch in for Saturday.

Canoe rental = $42 per canoe ($21 a man, if you split it).
obviously there is NO cost if you brought your own.

Please bring CASH with you, as I am not sure if the campsite or canoe rental takes a credit card.

Jason and I are going to go down early on Friday to make sure that we can get a campsite, and set everything up.
You have the following choices:
A. going with us early (around 10am or so)
B. or you can meet Chris Talburt at the church at 12:30 (original plan)
C. or you can leave at 5:00 or so with Gary Wilson & Randy Tucker as they will leave later because of work.

Also, just a reminder, dont forget to bring the following:
  1. Cooler
  2. any additional Snacks you want (as Jason & I are going to have Dinner (Fri) , & breakfast and lunch (Sat)
  3. Camera (if you want one)
  4. flashlights (for the caves)
  5. Tent & Sleeping bag (might want those)
  6. poncho (possible thought)
  7. fishing rod
  8. sunscreen
  9. bugspray

OK, this Float Trip has turned from a small 5-7 guy trip into a larger 24-26 man Float.
So, I have decided to take a different approach, and do some more planning.

Here is what has changed:
  1. We are still meeting at High Street at the same time on Friday July 11th.
  2. We are NOT going to float Friday evening, we will just eat & camp.
  3. Then, Saturday we will have an ALL Day Float.
  4. We will have food, drinks, some snacks for you, which we will figure out what the cost will be per man shortly. I think that we are shooting for under $20 a person for both Friday night & all day Saturday.
  5. We will be saving $35 per canoe, since we will NOT be renting a canoe for Friday.
  6. For those of you bringing your own canoe, you will NO longer have to pay the $25 haul fee, since we will drop off your canoes at the campsite on Friday.

Also, here is a website for creating your own checklist of stuff to bring:

whoa, whoa, whoa. is that picture from the river? surely not?! right? (i know i am not a guy, but i would have been tempted to invite myself just to see that part of the river. i would have left after that so you all could have your man-time, i promise.)
also, CT is officially in. i am pretty sure there isn't room in coacher's bag.

sammyb, you're crazy...30 miles in a day and half...i just went with 3 other strapping lads and we did 26 in 2 fulls days and we were spent. gung-ho and crazy are 2 different things...the only thing that could help us is current...does this river have any?

Anonymous said...

It has a good current. Right now the river is up a little. The current is always better on the Current above Akers. They say that you should be able to cover 3 miles per hour on the Current without stops. As this is a 32 mile float we sould be able to clear it in 11 hours. I figure 5 hours worth of stops for caves, springs, cliffs, rope swings, etc. It would be nice to cover 8-10 miles on Friday near Round Spring. Then on Saturday morning check out the Round Spring cave.

Fishing report have the bass on these in 41 0r 42

Spoke with Anita @ Two Rivers Canoe again today.
She said that we should NOT have to worry about making that trip in 1.5 days (unless we are weanies).

She also said that it is $25 to haul your own canoe, so those of you that are bringing your own, keep that in mind.

Sam - I've got my own canoe and I believe Joe is going to borrow his brother's canoe so you can drop two from the rental list.
Just thought you'd want to know that.

Michael Ellegaard called me tonight and said he is for sure in. I just looked and didn't see his name on the list. Thanks for taking care of all the details.

Also, if you need me to float alone so that the numbers come out right that's fine with me. KW

SammyB said...

KW:
Thanks.
I had him on there earlier (I thought I was missing someone). I have added him back. and Jeppsen is in as of tonight.

and look at Canoe #3, Talburt is floating with someone.
